Kenya Hot Air Balloon Safaris

What better way to start the day could there be than rising gently above the plains of Africa in a hot air balloon? As you ascend, dawn begins to creep over the horizon, illuminating the landscape in an ethereal light and setting the scene as the animals begin to stir and a new day begins. As you float in the air you will have a bird's eye view of the wildlife and there will be some excellent photos opportunities. The experience is exhilarating and for many it is the highlight of their holiday.

HOW MANY PEOPLE DOES IT TAKE TO FLY A BALLOON?

The sport of ballooning is a wonderful group or family activity. To safely launch and fly a balloon requires a minimum crew of four people. Duties of the crew typically include launch preparation, following the balloon flight in the chase vehicle, obtaining permission of the landowner for the balloon landing and retrieval, keeping spectators out of the landing area, and insuring that gates are left as they are found and that property is not damaged

When is the best time to fly

Hot air ballooning is a year-round sport. Weather conditions for ballooning are best just after sunrise mostly flies for an hour. Light, ideal winds (0-8 mph) often occur during these times. During the day, when the sun is high, thermals (large bubbles of hot air that rise from the sun-heated earth) make ballooning hazardous.

Safari is one of the most popular ' add-on ' option with tourists on Safari or Beach Holidays in East Africa, especially with couples on honeymoons. The hot air balloons lift off just before sunrise when the breeze on the plains is still cold. Once airborne, the balloons are blown by the prevailing winds across the broad landscape. Apart from the hiss of the burners, the flight above the Maasai Mara plains is magically silent. The pilot controls the height of the craft by regulating the flow of hot air into the balloon. Sometimes the balloon will descend over the plains for a close up view of the wildlife; on other occasions, it rises to clear a tree canopy and rise over the riverine forest.
